Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Timer I will start off by saying I have never stained or painted anything in my life, so I was very nervous and unsure of myself. Thankfully, the PPG Timeless Stain was an exceptional product to work with. I was surprised by how smooth the stain looked after only a couple passes of the roller. The wood was instantly transformed! The stain was easy to work with and forgiving in a couple of areas where I made a mistake. The dry time was also pretty fast on a sunny 85 degree day. My fence and shed have never looked better and I'm so proud to say I did it all myself with the help of PPG Stain. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stain Experiment I was very interested to see how this would work, as I have not really worked with stain before. When I opened the first can, I thought it looked much darker than the color I selected. I wasn't too worried, since stain is different from paint and goes on much thinner. My First Project was a fence between the houses, that was unfinished wood on my side. The stain went on easy, and the rougher surface soaked it right up. I was right, the color applied much lighter than it looked in the can, andI was very happy how it looked on the wood. Applying onto the bare wood, i used 3-4 coats to get a nice finish. That seems alot, but the stain covers a large area, and applies fast. I think the finished fence looks great. The wood has ab "alive" look to it, and the natural grain and color shows through in just the right balance to the stain tint. I took a few pics of the fence, one shows well the old and new look as I worked. MY Second Project was interior. This was exterior stain, but I was sent four gallons, so I was looking around for more places to try! I decided on a wood closet. it had a varnish finish, but was really old, and lots of scratches, dents, and even thumbtack holes. I had to be careful applying stain, since on this surface it didn't soak in much, and I had to avoid runs and splotches. I got better as I went. I had no idea how this would work, but the change was amazing. The wood has a like new gloss, and a richer color. Its darker, but looks good. The stain also took out out the scratches and chips, covering them to match. I was like, "wow." The thumbtack holes filled in some, but are way less noticeable. I might try this on other old doors inside too. I took a pic with one door done and one not as I worked. I used brushes on both projects. Clean-up was very easy, just soap and water to rinse out my brushes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great shine and consistent color Luckily we had a batch of warmer weather to apply it to the front of our cedar home. It went on consistently but was a little thin so that it dripped a bit onto cement. It was easy to apply and seemed color consistent. It dried in one day to apply to second coat. We were very happy with the shiny final coat. I really liked the low odor that was a pleasure to work with all day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use Wonderful Reaults Upon opening the can I was excited to use this stain and sealant. The color was really pretty and the odor was more of a paint than that of a strong stain that I am used to. The stain was very easy to apply- I used a regular paint brush and it was not messy and there were no visible lines. It was a very easy product to use. The project went fast and I was so happy with the results. Cannot wait to find something else to use this stain on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WORKS WELL!! I was provided this product to use it on a project and to give my honest review of it.I used it on a cedar fence that was at least 12 years old and hadn't seen any upkeep for at least 8 years so the stain/sealer on it was shot and it was weather worn very badly. I first pressure washed the fence to clean and lighten the wood. I tried to spray the stain on but due to the roughness of the wood and other factors it just wasn't working to my satisfaction. The stain is very thin so when spraying vertical rough textured wood it tends to drip so you have to constantly back brush it.....very time consuming. So on to the best way to apply for me, the old hand brushing method. The stain goes on very well with a brush When first applying it I was worried that it was too red or orange, not too worry when dry it darken out beautifully. It covers well and looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Shade I am extremely pleased with this stain. It is a beautiful shade (Dark Ash) that absorbs nicely into the wood. I loved working with this stain because it went on smoothly and quickly. It also was easy to clean off of my hands. The stain dried quickly which made my project that much easier since I applied two coats. The first coat was a little too light. The second shade was perfect. I could see the light coloring but also the beautiful effects of the wood. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from staining old barn trim Test of PPG 2105V Atlas Cedar Base stain. Shipping: The cans arrived rather dented; I’m surprised they were not leaking. The box had no packing material whatsoever, and was ripped badly. I painted the roof trim/facia board of my workshop barn. It is weathered cedar approximately 30 years old. Application was rather straightforward, no real issues. The stain went on in a single smooth coat, with very little prep. It applies a little cloudy, but thins and darkens to a nice semi-transparent finish. One can will go quite far, as I painted all the trim on one side of my barn and only used around a third of a can. Drying time is quick, in the Florida sun, or even in a shaded area. Cleanup with water was decent; it didn’t discolor the brush or make it unusable. Overall I would give this stain 5 stars, it performed excellently.
